Plan implementation

A critical step of marine spatial planning (MSP) is implementation and enforcement. While implementation without planning would be receipe for failure, planning without implementation is sterile. Both planning and implementation are critical parts of MSP. Essentially, implementation is the process of converting MSP plans into actual operational programs.

Various countries have used different ways to implement their MSP initiatives. We are currently compiling a set of good practices to illustrate how countries have implemented MSP successfully. We expect to have it available here by the end of June 2009.

You can read about an initial set of good practices on implementation and enforcement of the spatial management plan in Step 8 (p. 83-85) of the guide "Marine spatial planning: A step-by-step approach toward ecosystem-based management". Download (pdf, 1.55 MB)
